It's not as cut and dry, while it's pretty difficult to go against nature, Bible was used to be taken more seriously at the time, having children out of wedlock was a major faux pas and would often ruin the mother's life (it should be noted that the men responsible, sadly, were seldom negatively affected, having the option to just waltz off).
Folklore also tends to have a variety of cautionary tales on adultery, infidelity and promiscuity. On top of my head, House Carpenter and Cruel Mother, Lovely Joan come to mind. I guarantee that most if not all western cultures praised a maiden's virtue and promoted monogamy. These ideas were often ignored, sure, but the pressure was there; today it's all but gone.
